The RC POA Board Highlights & Sneak Peaks
There has been much discussion of the current $60/lot/year POA property owners fees which have remained at this rate since 1965. In 1965 a gallon of gas was 31 cents, the average household income was $6,450 per year and new car was $2,650. In other terms, $60 in 1965 would equal $464 in 2017.
The next steps in the RC POA "revitalization" is to determine how much revenue do we want to depend on from Ranch House rentals versus POA yearly dues?
Follow-up community meetings are in the works for the summer and fall where the RC POA Board hopes for an educational debate and discussion of raising the property owners fees. The POA Board wants to hear from the community and there will be a ballot vote.
The POA Board has hired Tax Place Bookkeeping and Payroll Services to provide transparency in all financial matters. On the horizon will be paperless automated payments for POA fees, wedding rentals, pool passes, etc.
The POA Board is also in consultation with a real estate attorney to assess the dues increase and all other compliance.
A very generous anonymous property owner wants to donate $100,000 to two projects: a walking path in the meadow and a community center. The donor has 2 requests from the POA Board. (1.) Use donation to seek some level of matching funds or in-kind trade. (2) Find a way to measure if property owners are committed to the long-term viability of the POA. The donor has mentioned that the ratification of a POA fees increase can and would be seen as a partial matching funds and the measure of good faith that the community is committed to the sustainability of the canyon.
Although many volunteered to help within the steering committees initially, those individuals that have followed through is quite a bit smaller. We still need you to help sustain the vision for our community.

The Pool The POA is ecstatic to announce that 110 families have purchased annual pool passes with over 200 at the pool on opening day. Kids were everywhere and having a great time. A big thanks to Monica, Wicker, and the Pool Steering committee for getting the pool in pristine shape, generating such interest, and giving our families and the youth a place to work and play. ~ Family season passes are $250. ~ Senior citizens (65 and over) couples pass $100. ~ Daily rate for all swimmers without a pass is $5. ~ Families who purchase a pass may buy a gate key for $10 (a savings of $40 from 2016) to use after hours for 16 year-old +. (pool staff will monitor and send all under age swimmers home). Aquire your pass by contacting Monica at 806-789-1677 or stop by the pool. Pool Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday: 1pm-6pm. Sundays 2pm-6pm. Closed Tuesdays. Swimming Lessons begin June 5 ~ contact Monica or stop by the pool to sign up.

The City of Ransom Canyon vs. The Ransom Canyon POA We thought it would be helpful to provide some clarity on City responsibilities and those things the POA are in charge of. The City: provides the necessary infrastructure and maintenance for services such as water, sewer, roads, and garbage collection. The city is also responsible for the beautification of the City Park and maintaining the grounds at Ransom Canyon. The city provides public safety through our police and provides some funding to the Volunteer Fire Department and The Library to subsidize their programs. In addition, the city provides the citizens with mosquito-spraying services. The city also elects it's government officials and employs office staff to run and maintain the services in Ransom Canyon. The Property Owners Association: is a lead by volunteer board who are elected and or selected from the community but at it's heart, the POA is people who live and own property in Ransom Canyon. The POA maintains the party island, Ranch House, pool, and the meadow area. The POA organizes community events and activities. Social Events & Activties Committee The Social Events & Activities Steering Committee is continuing to meet to develop and host new and established recreational events for residents of Ransom Canyon. New plans for the summer include Kayak Races, a Tour of Ponds and Water Gardens in the Canyon, and an End of Summer Celebration/Music on the Island Event on Sunday, August 20th. Looking to the fall, plans are underway for football watching parties, Taste of the Canyon, Visions of Art and a luncheon to honor our veterans. Dates for the races and tour will be coming soon! We need help with the implementation of these events and are actively recruiting volunteers-please call or text Val Meixner at 789-4881 if you are interested. The committee meets next on Thursday, June 8th at 6:00 PM at the Ranch House.
