The Echo - December 2017

The Echo ~ December 2017

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around the canyon! Very soon people from the surrounding towns will drive through our streets to enjoy the lights and to experience Christmas in Ransom Canyon. Thank you those of you who faithfully decorate your homes: inside and out, for this holiday season. The Ransom Canyon POA board believes that along with celebrating the birth of our Savior, Christmas is about bringing joy to others. It would bring us joy if you would consider serving along side us to make our community a better place to live. Email the RC Property Owners Association Board

A Message from the RC POA Board:

Just a brief reminder that the regular POA board meetings are the second Monday of each month at 6:00pm and steering committee meetings now have a dedicated day, the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm (no meeting in December). Notice of Property Owners Association Meeting: Date: Tuesday, December 19th Place: The Ranch House Time: 6:30pm Purpose: Discussion pertaining to the tract of land abutting 102 S. Lakeshore Drive and membership vote transferring this tract of land to John and Marti Schmersey. The board encourages you to attend this meeting to receive clarification on this issue. The board will not participate in social media speculation or criticism of any parties. Candice Omberg POA President

A Note from our Police Chief I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday. As everyone knows, December can be a hectic and busy time of year out here at the canyon. Please keep in mind that there is no travel trailer or motorhome parking overnight on the street for the month of December. Traffic will pick up the closer we get to Christmas with people coming here from Lubbock to look at the lights. Please be patient with these drivers as they are only wanting to come out and admire the beautiful place that we call home.

Ransom Canyon does not have any rules pertaining to times for Christmas lights, but it does help to clear the traffic out if you turn them off around 10:00 p.m.

Something new for our residents, Ransom Canyon is now a golf cart friendly community (with a driver’s license and permit). Give me a call at 786-8513 with any questions you might have regarding permitting or the city ordinance pertaining to golf carts.

As always, watch out for yourselves and your neighbors and give your police department a call with any suspicious activity.

Have a Merry Christmas James W. Hill

From the Events Committee

The morning of November 24th was sunny and cool-perfect weather for the 33 enthusiastic entrants of all ages in the First Annual Ransom Canyon Turkey Trot. The t-shirts added to the fun and plans are already in the works for an even bigger event next year! Thanks go to Rose Hoeve for initiating the planning process; Heidi Wilson for marking the route, designing and ordering the t-shirts, and obtaining all of the necessary supplies; and Marti and Mike Greer and the Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs Lake Triathlon for sharing signage, gatorade coolers and cups.

A Message from the Chapel The 33rd annual Christmas Tour of Homes is on December 14th 6:30-9:00 pm. Tickets are on sale at City Hall and a number of other locations. The tickets are $12.50 per ticket or 5 for $50. Attending the Tour is a wonderful way to support our RC Memorial Chapel, visit with neighbors and enjoy the Christmas Season. Tickets make great gifts so buy a lot!! Also, bring your favorite homemade cookies to the Chapel on Brookhollow on Wednesday 13th between 4-6pm or call Linda @ 239-1296. Go to www.ransomcanyonchapel.com for more information.

A Note from The Beautification Committee

Members from the Beautification Committee met with City officials in an effort to clarify our property ordinances and to see how the POA can support an effort to bring homes with overgrown yards, construction debris, long term damage and other unsightly issues into compliance. In the new year we will be reaching out to the owners of homes not in compliance with city ordinances/deed of restrictions to bring back up to the common standard. Our committee is looking into relocating the flag pole at the Ranch House to the driveway entrance of the Ranch House. We are also looking to relocate the dumpsters on Island to possibly the boat ramp area. We are also acquiring pots for appropriate cigarette butt disposal (so our guests/residents don't leave them all over the ground). One other gentle reminder to pet owners who enjoy walking their dogs: please plan ahead and pick up after your dog.

If you have other ideas to beautify our town, please join us at the next steering committee meeting or email us.

Celebrate a New Year With Us! Monica Nowlin and Christie Underwood are chairing the celebrated annual New Years Eve Party (doors open at 8pm) at the Ranch House. Live music and a champagne toast at midnight followed by black eyed peas and cornbread will provide a perfect backdrop for New Years revelry. Prior to December 18th tickets are $30 per person while a table for 8 is $250 and a table for 6 is $200. After the 18th, tickets are $40 per person; a table for 8 is $320; and a table for 6 is $270. Call 806-640-8045 or 806-789-4881 or email to purchase tickets and/or for more information.

The New POA Website

The new POA website is live! It is our hope that you will pay your yearly POA dues, Ranch House rentals and pool memberships electronically through the website. This is another avenue in which we, as the POA, want to be totally transparent with you.

The winners of the December Yard of the Month are #19 Sunrise Lane (Randy & Billie Armstrong) and #24 South Lakeshore Drive (Allen & Maralyn Butler). These homeowners properties are well maintained AND decorated for the holidays! Thank you to these homeowners who make our canyon a beautiful place to live. These homes have a "YOM" sign in their yard to recognize their homes - go and check them out! Thank you to Berkshire Hathaway Realtors: Becky Harvey, Phyllis Lutrick, Ron Mouser and to McDougal Relator: Sue Keveryn, for sponsoring the "YOM" signs. The Beautification Committee of the RC POA will award 2 YOM winners in the months April-December.
