The Echo - May 2017

Spring is a beautiful time in Ransom Canyon when the trees bud, yucca plants bloom and our friends and neighbors begin spending the long days out of doors. This spring is also a time of great excitement and new beginnings in our community. The information provided below will provide you information about what is happening in your community. Do you want to be more involved? Email the RC Property Owners Association Board

The RC POA Board Highlights

  • An amazing 48 property owners have volunteered to serve on steering committees and have been challenged to figure how to better serve the property owners. These committees are: Activities & Events, Advertising & Sponsorships, Communications, Canyon Beautification, Finance/Strategic Planning, and Swimming Pool.

  • Board Members presented a very transparent in-depth 3-year financial review with results showing 2 of 3 prior years showing negative cash flow, with 2017 projected to breakeven.

  • Although Ranch House rentals have enabled the RC POA to pay down debt, make capital improvements and remain cash neutral, it is now time to make this facility more accessible to the community.

  • Steering Committees will also discuss and guide decisions about increasing the annual $60 property owner dues while we reduce the amount of non-resident wedding rentals each year to cover costs of operating expenses and added benefits and value.

  • A very generous anonymous property owner wants to donate $100,000 to two projects: a walking path in the meadow and a community center. The donor has 2 requests from the POA Board. (1.) Use donation to seek some level of matching funds or in-kind trade. (2) Find a way to measure if property owners are committed to the long-term viability of the POA.

  • Steering Committees and the board will be looking at all options and will create property owner cost-benefits options, as well as a do-nothing option. All options will be shared and discussed in 3-4 scheduled community POA community meetings throughout the summer, with property owners ultimately making the decision by a vote in Sept or October.

Social Events & Activties Committee The S E & A Committee met April the 17th and agreed to select 8-10 activities to organize for the upcoming year. These events will be focussed on family friendly opportunities with a few affordable fundraisers mixed in. The committee then reviewed the list of events and activities developed by POA members that attended the focus meetings held earlier in the spring. After much discussion the following events/activities were selected. They represent ongoing annual events, a revival/renewal of former traditions, and new events/activities. It was agreed that this is a work in progress, but nevertheless, a good start. You can look forward to kayak races in June, Independence Day festivities July 3rd and 4th, July 21st RC Police Department family movie night, and summer music on the island in August. Looking to the fall, plans are underway for football watching parties, Taste of the Canyon, Visions of Art and a luncheon to honor our veterans.

A Friendly Reminder Ransom Canyon has a city ordinance stating that weeds must not be taller than 8 inches. If your yard has gotten a bit "out of hand", please be proactive and care for your property.
