Ransom Canyon Property Owners Association

ree

Over the past month, the Property Owners Association (POA) has diligently concentrated on several important projects aimed at improving our community:

  • Brookhollow Pump Replacement: Brookhollow resident Wayne Hardin attended the meeting to discuss his role with the pump. Initially, Bill Chaney, Mark Doty, and Wayne Hardin managed the pump. After Bill Chaney moved, Eric Cargile moved into his house and helped, but since Eric moved it’s just Mark and Wayne. He informed the board that they purposely let the creek dry up to allow new Brookhollow residents to repair their deck. He stated that he and Mark Doty have been maintaining the pump and will continue to do so. Wayne confidently informed the board that the issue isn't the pump's horsepower. He explained that there isn't enough electricity for a higher horsepower pump and that the pipeline isn't large enough to accommodate more water. Although Greg Byron, a pump expert consulted by the board, recommended a larger pump, Wayne assured them that he and Mark are managing the current issues. They have two 2-horsepower pumps, using one as a backup. The main problem is the thick reeds clogging the suction, which causes the creek to dry up, produce odors, and attract mosquitoes. Wayne hasn't taken charge of the pump because he travels and there's rain in the fall, but he assists when he's home. He advised the board not to spend money on the pump, as they are working on cleaning it up. The POA offered assistance, requesting that Wayne inform them of any needs. Ultimately, the pump is on POA property, making it their responsibility. Wayne concluded by saying they want the creek full and will continue volunteering to maintain the pumps. The board thanked him for maintaining the Brookhollow pump and asked that if he needs anything to let the board know.

  • Corey Needham cleaned out the drain underneath lakeshore drive. Because the drain is so high there wasn't really much plugging up the drain.

  • Treasurer's Report: Judy Laney presented a financial report, highlighting a rise in cash and bank balance from $234,000 to $259,000. She details various accounts, such as a wedding review account and an operating account. Judy suggests transferring some of the wedding revenue into the operating account to accrue interest. She also mentions the net income for the month and the anticipated revenue from the Ranch House. You can see further details by viewing the Agendas and Minutes.

  • Echo Courier: The POA will not be doing a print Echo at this time due to the expense. The POA will do an annual print that will include a ballot in preparation for the annual meeting. More information to come next year.

  • New Years Eve: Get ready for an exhilarating New Year's Eve Gaming Night at the Ranch House! For just $100 per person, you'll receive $2000 in funny money to use for games and win fantastic prizes. Plus, enjoy a delicious dinner from Pinky's Taco Truck! Bring your own beverages and dance the night away with us! Tickets will be available for purchase soon!

    • Current sponsors for the event, including Phyliss Lutrick (Broker Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Premier Properties), West Texas Brick and Stone, David Powell Commercial Real Estate, Wentz Orthodontics, and Roofs Inc. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor. We have a few opportunities available. Please email poa@ransomcanyonpoa.org if you are interested.

  • Ranch House Report: There are some ceiling tiles and lights that need repaired. Chelsea is going to call and get a quote from Hamilton Acoustical to replace the ceiling tiles and some of the lighting in the Ranch House.

  • POA Dues: In April, a vote was conducted to increase the POA dues; however, it has been determined that such an increase is not permissible under our current deed restrictions, and the required quorum of 160 was not achieved. Should expenses exceed the annual assessment, the POA will need to either engage in fundraising efforts or provide the necessary information and research to propose a special assessment vote.

All went well with the Canyon garage sale for the Fire Department.  We were able to raise enough money to purchase the UTV itself without the fire pump on the back (to be able to put out fires).  Although we are striving to get this project completed, our attention has been temporarily shifted towards the Texas Forest Service Grant.  The Texas Forest Service decided to clear a backlog of requested equipment and awarded over 600 trucks to Texas Volunteer Fire Departments.  Our department was awarded $300,000.00 for a Tender (a type of tanker), and our portion of this is 5%, roughly $15,000.00.  We will keep you updated on our progress as we continue.  - Chief Angela Hill

We appreciate everyone's support for the Volunteer Fire Department. They play a vital role in our community by ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents. These dedicated individuals selflessly dedicate their time and energy to respond to emergencies, provide fire prevention education, and engage in community outreach programs.

Chapel Chatter

October was an exciting month for The Little Chapel Of Brookhollow.  We celebrated many birthdays with Richard Heim turning 95 years young.  Pastor Appreciation Sunday was an overwhelmingly great day.  A special day was planned for the Pastor.  Friends who don't come to the Chapel on Sunday came and made it an even extra special day.  It was a day of love, celebration, happiness, and thankfulness for the blessings that come down from the Father above. There was also a birthday party for the Pastor's wife, Janet, at the Tuesday Bible study.  Many cards, texts, emails, and gifts were given with the Bible study to follow.  What a wonderful day in the Lord it was.   The Community Worship Service starts tonight, (Tuesday) at 7:00 p.m. ending tomorrow night (Wednesday).  Banners were placed at the front entrance of the canyon and at the back entrance of the canyon.  October is always an exciting month because it is the doorway to the holidays that bring families together the most.  We give all glory and honor to Jesus.

News from the Chapel Board

Lynn Miller is hard at work getting homes for the Chapel's main fundraiser for the year, the Chapel's Tour of Homes is scheduled for Thursday, December 11, 2025. She would love to have you volunteer your home. This year we are praying that this fundraiser will raise the funds needed to get the deck professionally cleaned and stained.

Preparing the gardens for fall is another major project. If you would like to share ideas of plants that do well at your home or if you have plants that you would like to share, please let a board member know!
