January 2026
Ransom Canyon Property Owners Association

December was a bustling time in the canyon. Events included the Chapel Holiday Home Tour, the Christmas Parade, Cookies with Mr. and Mrs. Clause, the Light up the Canyon contest, and much more. Each year, the lights around the canyon become increasingly impressive.
Treasurer's Report:
Judy Laney delivered a financial report highlighting the community's finances, noting a cash balance of $264,000. The net income from January to November this year was $39,008.20, compared to $25,004.20 last year. This indicates that we have successfully maintained and increased our revenue, avoiding the projected decrease from last year, which is excellent news. For more details, please see the Agendas and Minutes.
Ranch House Report: The old Christmas lights have been removed from the roof. The ducks have eaten the turf on Angel Point and it is in need of repair.
POA Dues: Invoices are sent out in December each year via mail or email. Annual POA dues ($60) are due by March 1st. If you prefer email, know that the invoice comes from quickbooks@notification.intuit.com.
Payment by check - You can mail check to Ransom Canyon POA Box A Ransom Canyon, TX 79366.

April 7th Annual Meeting: If you are interested in volunteering for the Property Owners Association board, there will be three open positions available. Starting in April, it is a commitment of two years. The roles and time requirements are flexible depending on the position filled. Please email (poa@ransomcanyonpoa.org) a brief description of yourself and your reasons for wanting to serve on the board. This information will be shared with all our neighbors. I also recommend reviewing our bylaws to familiarize yourself with the different positions. The election will take place at the April 7th meeting.

The fire department successfully acquired the UTV. The funds for the unit that will be mounted on the UTV to combat fires are still being secured due to the recent funding cuts from the county. The department decided to proceed with the purchase of the UTV and will subsequently work on acquiring the pump unit through additional fundraising efforts.
The fire department was also awarded $300,000 for a fire truck from the Texas Forest Service. After 14 years of being on the list, the Forest Service reviewed its records and awarded 601 fire trucks, including pump units. The specific unit awarded was determined based on the department’s requests. The department had requested various equipment to assess the availability of funds.
The Forest Service awarded the department the largest unit, which requires a 5% payment of $14,000. This payment places the department between a pump unit for the UTV and the acquisition of the water tender unit for the canyon.
Chief Angela Hill acknowledges that the sudden increase in funding requests may seem excessive. However, the department currently has an aging water tanker that could not have been acquired at a more opportune time. The new equipment will enhance the department’s fleet.
The department will continue to engage in fundraising efforts to secure the remaining funds needed. Members of the community expressed their gratitude to Chief Angela Hill for her efforts in modernizing the department.
The Volunteer Fire Dept is always looking for more volunteers. Come support your neighborhood and meet new neighbors! Our meeting time is 7pm on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Mondays of each month. They will have recruitment flyers at the Chili Cook Off if you're interested in joining!
